Somerset Morrisons Warehouse Facility, Bridgewater M5
Supermarket retailer Morrisons are working on an extensive new warehouse facility in Somerset, adjacent to the M5, close to junction 23, sitting just north of The Willow Man, “the Angel of the South”. The team at DLA Arcitecture have used The Willow Man as the inspiration behind the design for the cladding panels which depict the natural colours of willow.
Low carbon and sustainable design have been a priority for this 800,000 square foot facility, utilising measures such as using ammonia for refrigeration as opposed to conventional options; introducing daylight in the bulk of warehouse and other spaces, cutting the need for artificial lighting; and high levels of air tightness to avoid heat loss.
The £95 million project is expected to become fully operational early in 2012. The freehold facility will serve 63 stores and supports Morrisons’ ‘National to Nationwide’ expansion.
